Kelly & Nick did an outstanding job incorporating their favorite places and things into their wedding day. The couple has deep roots at Iowa State University. (If you recall their engagement session, we photographed around campus town and inside the bar where they first met.) Being Cyclone alumni and fans ourselves, we were very excited to receive access to photograph some portraits inside Jack Trice Stadium! It's safe to say the experience was a dream come true for everybody involved and we learned that girls rock at football (see below). Kelly & Nick tied the knot right next to the stadium inside the conservatory at the always beautiful Reiman Gardens. A favorite moment was when Kelly's adorable niece decided to take a nap in her daddy's arms prior her moment to shine as flower girl. After the ceremony the ISU theme was continued when we boarded a CyRide bus for a romantic cruise before the couple's introduction to their reception at the Knapp Storm Dinning Complex. The reception was decorated like a night club with moody purple and blue lights and Kelly & Nick put on a show cutting their zombie wedding cake , which read "Til death do us part..."
Dijana and Regan's intimate outdoor ceremony was held at Reiman Gardens at sunset. The celebration was a small gathering of family and close friends. Dijana's choice of yellow Calla Lillys for her bouquet and decoration created a beautifully subtle accent to the natural backdrops of the day's events. For wedding party, the couple had only a Best Man and Maid of Honor (both siblings) which further enhanced the intimacy of the occasion and enabled them to be more family focused. Pre-ceremony we photographed Dijana and Regan's First Look followed by their portraits on a scenic bike path where the couple frequently takes walks. Dijana brought a bright red, old-school bicycle that made for some stellar photographs! The reception (also at Reiman) consisted of an indoor seating area connected to an outdoor dance floor. The food was catered by The Cafe (the best restaurant in Ames!) and included hors d'oeuvres, drinks, dinner and dessert. It was an unbelievably delicious spread that still has us talking about it :) The day was truly a joyous occasion to photograph. Dijana and Regan - we wish you all the best as you move forward in your life together and kick some marital butt!
In our experience, the best weddings are the ones with plenty of tears, and Maria & David's wedding was no exception. The way David looked at Maria was enviable in the best way and both families were joy-filled for the union of their children. The outdoor ceremony took place at the beautiful Reiman Gardens (which was in full bloom) and the forecasted rain held off until the conclusion of the ceremony. David is from El Salvador and many of the wedding guests were Spanish-speaking, so much of the ceremony was translated. David's extended family got a kick out of our terrible broken Spanish while we instructed them during family photos and it was fun to communicate using gestures and non-verbals. Their reception immediately followed the ceremony in the Great Hall of the Iowa State Memorial Union. Definitely noteworthy is their first dance! Maria and David first met while dancing at Iowa State and they've been dancing together since. We've been told their first dance was mostly improvised, but the Latin-themed extravaganza had everybody's attention as they spun around the dance floor gracefully at breakneck speed.
Here are a few of our favorite images from the day:
Shanen and Ryan had one of the most colorful and unique weddings we’ve ever had the privilege of shooting. The couple met at Iowa State, so naturally ISU was the backdrop to much of the day. They were married in the Ames City Auditorium, which made for some awesome portraits, and their reception was at Iowa State’s beautiful Scheman building. Their wedding party was huge and had amazing chemistry which made for a lot of unique photo-ops. The couple’s strong love for each other (and for friends and family) was a joy to witness. We wish Ryan and Shanen the very best in their marital adventure! Here’s a collection of our favorite images from the day. Many more images will be available for viewing when we launch our new web site this winter!
Here’s a sneak preview of our first 2009 wedding! Suzy and Steve Westrum were a true joy to work with. Their wedding was in Ames at Cornerstone Church with reception following at the Gateway Hotel. It is the first of many we’ll be shooting and posting on this summer. Enjoy!
