Megan & Kyle's wedding took place on a crisp autumn day in Atlantic, IA. We can't remember a moment when Megan didn't have a smile on her face and it was such a joy to document her relationship with Kyle! We loved Megan's peacock feather theme and the bright touches of teal and purple carried throughout the garments and decor. Their ceremony took place at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with reception following at the Cass County Memorial Building. Megan & Kyle's engagement session was also quite memorable and you can see highlights from it here. Please enjoy a few of our favorite moments from the day:
A while back the groovy folks over at RAYGUN (the greatest store in the universe - head on over and start shopping now) drove down to the studio for me to photograph their Summer Catalog. It just dropped over the weekend and it's looking hot! You can pick up copies at our studio or at their store in Des Moines. The only instruction I was given for the shoot was that everything had to be photographed on a white background (RAYGUN's signature style), but they let me get pretty creative within that restraint. Here's a look at the spreads (and you can download the whole thing here):
We recently partnered with Bella Salon and Spa and collaborated on a sweet photo shoot to showcase their mad hairstyling skills. We spent an afternoon shooting wedding and prom hairstyles in our signature style at Stacey’s Prom in Urbandale. Stacey’s was kind enough to lend us their dresses and jewelry and let us shoot in their store. All the models from the shoot are regular patrons at Bella, so this was a genuine 100% local production. Alex designed an incredible album showcasing the collaboration that will be on display at both Bella locations (Valley West Mall and Johnston), and there will be an album at Stacey’s as well. If you’re looking for a hairstylist, stop by Bella and check it out! We had a blast shooting with the Bella staff and recommend them highly! Here are a few of our favorite images from the shoot:
Last month we photographed all the entries for the 2010 Iowa State Fashion Show. The shoot took place over 2 evenings (there were a LOT of entries) on ISU campus. I wish I had some before/after photos of our venue – it was a run-of-the-mill classroom packed with desks and we were able to turn it into a swanky photo studio (photo geeks: 1 white paper roll and 4 alien bee strobes – there’s a setup photo in the video later in the post). All entries had to be photographed identically on white, so we enjoyed the challenge of using posing to make the photos as different as possible. This photoshoot was all about the clothes, but it didn’t hurt that we had an awesome lineup of student models to wear them for us. We were blown away by the creativity of the outfits and thoroughly enjoyed getting up close and personal with them. Design students had pulled all-nighters to finish their outfits literally minutes before we photographed them (their deadline was the day of the shoot) and we partook in our fair share of caffeine and carbohydrates staying up until the early AM to get everything photographed. Here’s a sneak peek at some more of our favorite images: We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the 2010 Fashion Show committee for choosing us as their photographers for the show! The Fashion Show published an Art Book featuring our images that is available for purchase, and I’ll post a link as soon as I receive one. We’re getting a copy for the studio so you can peek at it next time you stop in. Lastly, here’s a sneek peek behind the scenes on the set, with a sweet soundtrack courtesy The Envy Corps:
We haven’t blogged since July, and we’ve heard recently from a few of you readers that you miss us!Quick note: season 1 of McClanahan Studio has gone splendidly and we’ve been busy with a ton of work, hence our absence from the blog-0-sphere. Our workload is dying down and we’re sitting on a gold mine of new work that will be posted in the near future. Hold us to it! FYI – we upload new work to our facebook page multiple times per week, so follow us on there in the meantime! Anyhow, our friend Sarah is a fashion design student and hired us to shoot some photos for her portfolio. The following are images of a 3-dress series she designed. Thanks to our FANTASTIC models Jill, Hannah and Alex (if you follow our work, you probably recognize all three of them).
And if by chance you are reading this and you are a) a high school girl in need of a custom prom dress, b) a bride-to-be in search of the perfect wedding dress or c) just a groovy gal or dude that wants a sweet dress: send us an email and we’ll put you in touch with Sarah! She loves taking on custom jobs and does great work at an affordable price.
