Mackenzi & Kyle (married)

Mackenzi & Kyle's wedding day began at the Adam's Street Bed and Breakfast in Carroll, IA, where Mackenzi and her bridesmaids were getting ready. We want to give them a shout out for being some of the most fun bridesmaids we've ever met! (If you haven't seen the images from their crazy photobooth yet, click here right now). Once Mackenzi donned her charming birdcage veil and mermaid gown, we met up with Kyle for some portraits, including some intimate moments and an image inspired by American Gothic. The entire event was held at Santa Maria Winery. The weather was gorgeous and the ceremony took place outside on the patio, followed by cocktails and a reception inside the winery. It provided a wonderful scene for dancing and formalities to unfold. Mackenzi & Kyle presented a special cupcake and led the guests in a rousing "Happy Birthday" for their nephew's first birthday. The ring bearer (Mackenzi and Kyle's adorable son), busted some killer dance moves with his teddy bear and rockstar sneakers (see below).

Jen & Sean (married)

Jen and Sean's wedding unfolded on a warm, sunny day at Santa Maria Winery in Carroll, IA. Their ceremony took place on the winery's beautiful shaded patio and their reception followed inside. Carroll's historic downtown was very photogenic and served as the perfect backdrop for wedding day adventures. Jen and Sean first met in Ballroom Dance Club at Iowa State so it was no surprise that the evening's dancing was quite the spectacle. (Jen and Sean were the fantastic instructors at the Ballroom Dance Class held last Spring at our studio) Their dollar dance was no exception since many of the guests and wedding party had ties to the ballroom club too. One bridesmaid exclaimed: "Dancing with Sean makes you feel like a princess!" Sean announced that he would dance with anyone who paid and knew a part, male or female, so many of his groomsmen took him up on this offer and entertained the delighted guests. Before the evening ended we were able to sneak Jen and Sean to the basement for a good night portrait with wine barrels. It has been a blessing getting to know this couple and we hope you enjoy this glimpse at their wedding day:

Lauren & Aaron

Lauren & Aaron are a high school sweetheart success story. We had the pleasure of attending their rehearsal dinner and loved hearing their whole story from all sides. It's a clear cut case of being made for one another. They'll be the first to admit that they make one another stronger people, which is a fact clearly visible to anybody that spends even a short amount of time with the couple.  It should also be noted that Lauren loves to laugh more than anybody we've ever met! Their ceremony was held at St. John Vianney in Bettendorf, IA. After the ceremony we joined the wedding party for a cruise around the Quad Cities in a giant RV, making stops at various locations for photographs. The QC is bursting with rustic charm that juxtaposed beautifully with the bridal party. The reception was at the Waterfront Convention Center. The decoré was exquisitely designed by Tamara Wendt Design and set the mood for the evening's events. As a special treat, Lauren and Aaron had Whitey's Ice Cream (if you're not familiar, it's the world's best ice cream) hand scooped by real Whitey's employees to give dessert a personal touch.

Lauren and Aaron: You guys are a blast. Thanks for letting us hang out with you on your wedding day and we wish you all the best in your marriage!

Mindy & Pablo

Mindy and Pablo's New York City wedding was a blast to photograph! The day started with Mindy getting ready at Club Quarters Hotel near Times Square. We had a little spare time to hit the streets and shoot some NYC style bridal portraits (see bottom right) before heading to The Church of Our Lady of the Good Counsel for the couple's nuptial mass. The church's interior was breathtakingly intricate and truly a site to behold. It provided a perfect backdrop for Mindy and Pablo to pledge their vows to God and to each other. A cool and unique aspect of Mindy and Pablo's wedding is that they had no wedding party. Instead, their parents stood by them during the ceremony and their siblings were very involved in the mass and throughout the day. After the ceremony the couple hailed a cab outside the church and we cruised to The Water Club, where we photographed some cool portraits before entering the floating reception aboard the Skyline Princess. Mindy's parents traveled from Alabama, some of Pablo's relatives traveled from Argentina, and other guests traveled from all over the country. The resulting mix created a very fun party! Despite the ship rocking back and forth, the dance floor hosted some of the most quality move-busting we've ever witnessed at a wedding. We were able to sneak the newlyweds out on the ship's bow as we passed the Statue of Liberty to shoot a few more portraits to close the day:

We want to extend a HUGE thank you to Mindy's family for hanging out with us and treating us like family during our stay! It was an unforgettable experience and definitely a great shooting opportunity for us. Mindy and Pablo, we have no doubt that you're going to live your marriage to the fullest and sincerely wish you the best!

Maria & David

In our experience, the best weddings are the ones with plenty of tears, and Maria & David's wedding was no exception. The way David looked at Maria was enviable in the best way and both families were  joy-filled for the union of their children. The outdoor ceremony took place at the beautiful Reiman Gardens (which was in full bloom) and the forecasted rain held off until the conclusion of the ceremony. David is from El Salvador and many of the wedding guests were Spanish-speaking, so much of the ceremony was translated. David's extended family got a kick out of our terrible broken Spanish while we instructed them during family photos and it was fun to communicate using gestures and non-verbals. Their reception immediately followed the ceremony in the Great Hall of the Iowa State Memorial Union. Definitely noteworthy is their first dance! Maria and David first met while dancing at Iowa State and they've been dancing together since. We've been told their first dance was mostly improvised, but the Latin-themed extravaganza had everybody's attention as they spun around the dance floor gracefully at breakneck speed.

Here are a few of our favorite images from the day:
