Whitney & David (married)

Whitney & David's wedding day unfolded at Prairie Moon Winery in Ames. Their day was one of the hottest of the year, but that didn't hinder morale. Whitney & David's excitement to marry one another was infectious and spread among everybody present. Both families and the wedding party were rock stars and let us take them outside for portraits (thanks guys)! Bottled water and fans were provided for guests to keep them cool through the late-afternoon ceremony, which took place on the fringe of the beautiful vineyard. The reception kicked off with a cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony inside the air–conditioned Prairie Moon reception hall. Whitney ensured that the day was chalked full of personal touches — everything from custom made wine bottle centerpieces to a locket on her bouquet containing photos of her late grandparents. After reception formalities we were able to sneak the newlyweds back into the vineyard for some sunset portraits to end the day.

Alicia & Ben (married)

Alicia and Ben's knot-tying commenced on a beautiful day in downtown Des Moines, IA. Their evening ceremony was held at the historic Saint Ambrose Cathedral with reception following at The Scottish Rite (one of our favorite venues! currently featured on our web site). We photographed most of our portraits on the streets of Des Moines in-between the two venues (which are walking distance from one another). Alicia and Ben's mutual excitement was infectious and was a joy to behold! Ben's constant affection towards his bride and Alicia's ceaseless smile are definitely indicators that they've got something extraordinary going on. Alicia's little sister was a huge part of the day, helping out in any way she could, and is a clear case of 10 going on 30. Her lack of camera shyness also made her a blast to photograph (see below). Please enjoy a few of our favorite images from their wedding, and if you just can't get enough Alicia & Ben you can see a few of their engagement photos here.

The Anytime

We recently had the opportunity to work with The Anytime, a club rock band hailing from Ames (right in our own backyard)! Check them out on facebook to hear their tunes and tell them how great their hair is! We photographed album art and promo images for their new album, Crave (which you can download in iTunes here). The photoshoot was groovy and the dudes were fun to hang out with. Shout out to Victoria Harding for assisting me on this one (check out her 365 blog full of goodness)! Here are a few of our favorite images from the shoot (everything shot at our studio):

Christina & Joe

Christina and Joe's elegant wedding day unfolded in Des Moines, IA.  The ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Church with reception following at the Wakonda Club. Christina's style was radiant throughout the day. Everything from her hot pink heels to the playfully modern decor of the reception. One of our personal favorite details from the day was the customized Jones Soda bottles (showcasing an assortment of engagement photos in multiple flavors) placed with each table setting as a keepsake – we have ours on display in the studio! We chose a brightly-colored area of town to photograph portraits to match the bright flowers and fun-loving personalities of the wedding party. The speeches at the reception were among the most hilarious and most moving we've ever heard. There was an awful lot of love on display at the wedding and it's apparent that the couple has a great support network of friends and family. Christina and Joe, thanks for entrusting us with the privilege of capturing your spectacular wedding. We wish you the best and lots of fun on your marital adventure!

Ballroom Dance Lesson was Awesome!

On Saturday we hosted a Ballroom Dance lesson in our studio for our 2010 wedding couples with 3 ideas in mind:1) To get to know the couples better 2) For the couples to get to know other engaged couples from the area and have fun exchanging wedding ideas 3) Because we think everybody should have some sweet moves for their first dance!

The lesson was taught by Jaclyn Hansel and Ryan Damman from Cyclone Ballroom. They taught the Waltz (great for a first dance) and Salsa (great for the rest of the night) and everybody in attendance caught on quickly! I’m excited to see them regurgitate some of what they’ve learned on the dance floor at their weddings! Make sure you check out Cyclone Ballroom’s Web Site and Facebook! They do a lot of teaching locally and we give them a glowing review for their performance on Saturday. Very excellent teachers and very fun people! Here are a few snaps from the event:
